“come along as we unlock the mysteries of life, one pretty cool hotel at a time!”

Oasis of Eden : America’s Best Value Inn & Suites :

56377 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca Valley, CA 92284

My rating : 4/5

Cleanliness : 3/5

Should you go : Yes, if you love weird, cool decor and don’t mind it feeling just a little…stuffy.

Worth the money : Despite it feeling a little dirty, I’d surprisingly say it’s worth the money just because they have some actually legit rooms.

Average nightly cost : ~$150

Location : Yucca Valley, CA – just outside of Palm Springs

Time of year to go : Summertime if you want to use the pool, but be warned it gets hot hot hot out there!

Recommended room or activity : We loved the 50’s room but would truly go back for one of the other weird, cool rooms. Definitely want to use that pink bathtub someday!

Bed bugs : None found.

Once I stayed at Cove Haven I was bit by the Hotel Tours Travel Bug…although ew maybe I don’t want to say Bug and Hotel Tours in the same sentence. Anyway, I decided to check out another weird/theme hotel just a little bit past Palm Springs. This one is a classic theme hotel, meaning they have a bunch of regular rooms, and a handful of “theme” rooms. We stayed in the Rock N Roll Fifties room and it was…gloriously weird. The bed is shaped like an old Cadillac and even though most of the stuff in the room was missing or broken, the headlights still turned on! Pretty cool. I loved the paint job, there were scenes on each wall and even the ceiling. There was a mirror above the bed which is always appreciated in these weird hotels, and the decor that was still there was certainly fitting to the scene. There were seriously so many missing things I thought at one point someone must have raided the place. Surely they could get some Elvis posters to throw on the walls to make a small improvement? Then again, the weird stuff like that is kind of part of the charm to discovering these places. So we’ll let it slide. We had no run-ins with bed bugs, however, this place could use a solid cleaning. Like a major vacuum job, maybe a carpet clean, and the sheets could use an extra wash. Having said that!!!……I don’t regret the stay. I know, gross. But it’s a fun weird room that makes for a fun, silly photoshoot at the very least. We didn’t try the tub but it looks very roomy!

After we checked out the owner was kind enough to let us explore some of the other rooms! I definitely saw other rooms I want to stay in, like the pink and green one and the church-looking one, so we might have to come back someday. In the meantime, let’s hope they don’t make any major improvements or updates to this wonderful, weird, pretty dang cool hotel.
