The Bloomhouse : Austin, TX

The Bloomhouse: Bold and unusual home designed in the 70s by architect Charles Harker.

Location: Austin, Texas

Cost: ~$450

Our Overall Rating: 5/5

I’m so glad we finally stayed here – it was such a fun and unique experience!! Never visited anything like it. It’s just fun to wander around both outside and inside and just enjoy the architecture.

Cleanliness Rating: 5/5

Old home but in beautiful shape – the new owners do a great job with upkeep.

Favorite Room: The whole place!!

Retreat on the Hill : Cotttonwood Shores, TX

Retreat on the Hill: Glamping site about an hour outside of Austin Texas with a StarDome and other unique overnight options!

Location: 4325 Cottonwood Dr, Cottonwood Shores, TX 78657

Cost: ~$200-500

Our Overall Rating: 4/5

Cleanliness Rating: 5/5

Favorite Room: The StarDome is a really unique and cool experience! The night we stayed was a bit cloudy but we still got to see the moon and some stars and it was cute and fun!! The sunset cabins had nice tubs and showers and sunset views which was nice too. All in all it’s a super lovely place, very clean with lots of great amenities and comfy robes! Great for a romantic night. Only downside is it’s not in a particularly cool area but that’s ok – I guess you could say that about a lot of the places we go lol!

Romantic Inn & Suites : Dallas, TX

Romantic Inn & Suites: A short-stay motel with some funky design features.

Location: Dallas, Texas

Cost: ~$150

Our Overall Rating: 2/5

Besides some fun colorful strip lights and funhouse mirrors on the ceiling, there’s not much that’s notable about this place. It’s a basic motel with short-stay options, so if that’s what you’re looking for this will do the job. Tbh I would like to see the funhouse ceiling mirrors in other rooms now, that was kinda fun! Oh, and the vintage signage was cool!

Cleanliness Rating: 2/5

Nothing scary but definitely not super clean. Cigarette burns on the bedding and all…

Favorite Room: Whatever has a ceiling mirror! Although there’s a cool looking heart mural one I would have liked to see…

Website: No website currently – although it seems to come and go

Booking Info: This definitely seems like the kind of place that you just show up and see what’s available.

Economy Inn & Suites : Irving, TX

Economy Inn & Suites: This hotel was once an America’s Best Value Inn, and before that a Fantasy Suites, or so I’ve heard. Hopefully that description alone give you the picture, but if not, read on…or just scroll through their 2-star reviews on google.

Location: 2200 E Airport Fwy, Irving, TX 75062

Cost: ~$150

Our Overall Rating: 1/5

These Fantasy Suites were surely on their last legs. Like…I was surprised they were still renting this one out! Truly felt like an abandoned room. It was so sad! Such a cool design but no one has kept up with this room. The sights sounds and smells were all bad news lol. The good news is, they do give you like 10 minutes to decide to change rooms, or maybe get a refund, but they weren’t especially friendly so maybe don’t risk it if you’re not willing to stay! We got to peek inside one of their Roman rooms and it’s possible it’s in better shape? But we didn’t go inside so hard to say. Either way – this is one of the many Fantasy Suite hotels that was probably born in the late 80s or early 90s but apparently didn’t have the best of luck.

Cleanliness Rating: 1/5

No cleanliness to speak of! No really, we never see rooms like this, and we see a lot! Still very cool but even the car kinda looked like it had been in a minor accident somehow…while inside lol

Favorite Room: Still a sucker for the 50s theme rooms despite the sad state!

Booking Info: We booked online but also called to make sure we got the room.

Days Inn by Wyndham Dallas Irving : Irving, TX

Days Inn by Wyndham Dallas Irving: Basic Days Inn that just so happens to still have two red heart shaped tubs!

Location: 2200 E Airport Fwy, Irving, TX 75062

Cost: ~$150

Our Overall Rating: 3/5

Definitely nothing special about this place except for the tubs! They told us before they renovated they also had red velvet round beds so we’re sad those disappeared but thrilled that they kept a couple tubs. We saw both of them and 114 was definitely nicer and had the lips shaped cutout around it. I love the mirrors and red lighting and all in all it was a super fun place to shoot!!

Cleanliness Rating: 3.5/5

Decently clean for a basic Days Inn! One of the rooms smelled a little bit smokey but not the one we got.

Favorite Room: Room 114 was the heart tub with the lips cutout! They have one other room with a red heart tub but it wasn’t quite as cool in my opinion!

Booking Info: They have one of those slightly chaotic/generic brand websites. You can book rooms there but I’d recommend calling ahead to make sure it reserved the room with the tub you want!
