Clayton Plaza Hotel : Clayton, MO

Clayton Plaza Hotel: A large hotel just outside of St Louis with ballrooms and conference centers and chandeliers in the lobby. Reminds me of somewhere I would have stayed with my family in the early 2000’s when one of my cousins was getting married. Does that explain the vibe? The special draw to this hotel is definitely the Honeymoon Suite (aka Executive Jacuzzi Suite) that features a heart-shaped tub. Although we didn’t go to the sit-down breakfast, I hear it’s pretty good!

Location: 7750 Carondelet Ave, Clayton, MO 63105

Cost: ~$150-$200

Our Overall Rating: 3/5

This place isn’t super special – in fact, it’s very run-of-the-mill hotel in a big city. The room with the heart tub is very basic and has no other “honeymoon” feel to it, but the bathroom with several plaques leading you to the shower was very entertaining. All in all it’s a skippable spot, but if you’re looking for a sweet lookin’ green heart-shaped tub near St. Louis, this one’s for you.

Cleanliness Rating: 3.5/5

Certainly not disgusting – and we slept there just fine – but the floors of our room had hair and crumbs and appeared to have not gotten a vacuum in awhile. The rest of the hotel seemed clean and functional so…maybe the room was just having a tough week.

Favorite Room: Executive Jacuzzi Suite

Executive Tropic Garden Hotel : Miami, FL

Executive Tropic Garden Hotel: A vintage motel with heart shaped tubs and surprisingly well maintained rooms designed in what appears to have been the 80’s. Known for their 3-hour ‘short stay’ option, this place has quite the reputation for being a seedy love motel.

Location: 6925 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33144

Cost: ~$100 for 4 hours

Our Overall Rating: 3/5

This chain is another classic Miami love hotel. We got the Executive Suite at this one and here are the upsides – the room is incredibly spacious with an upstairs area and downstairs area. I loved the disco lights, “the chair”, and the heart tub surrounded by mirrors and columns. It’s a room with a lot of potential!! It’s also a little grimy and half-assed, but that’s a miami love hotel for ya.

Cleanliness Rating: 2/5

Ok once we gave it a wipe down but personally speaking, 4 hours was plenty to enjoy it then head to the Hilton. (Just kidding, we stayed at a Best Western).

Favorite Room: I liked the Executive Suite for the heart tub in the columns!

Estancia Hotel : Miami, FL

Estancia: Quintessential hourly-rental motel in Miami featuring “the chair” and a couple (incredible) themed rooms.

Location: 7685 NW 12th St, Miami, FL 33126

Cost: $130 for 3 hours for theme rooms

Our Overall Rating: 4/5

Please understand my overall rating here takes into account exactly what type of place this is. I’m not rating this as a weekend-away on my honeymoon, I’m rating this as the 3-hour stay that it was and is meant to be, in my opinion. We got the Jungle themed room – and while we weren’t able to see the other themed rooms – this one was incredible. Some of the most elaborate detailing I’ve ever seen. Animal busts, murals everywhere, light show, and more foliage than I can even understand. It was phenomenal. Not super clean, and not necessarily romantic (I couldn’t even get myself to get into the jacuzzi after I cleaned it) – but wow it has lots of potential for a fun afternoon.

Cleanliness Rating: 2/5

The room is spacious and has a door leading to the outside so the good news is, it’s not stuffy. The bad news is, it doesn’t feel like the surfaces are very clean. I wasn’t even worried about all the “dust” in the foliage, really just worried about taking my shoes off. lol

Favorite Room: Jungle room all the way.

Booking Info: You can call ahead but I’m not sure they’ll take a reservation over the phone. We had to book in person and were lucky to get the Jungle room as most other theme rooms were taken. Arrive earlier in the day for your best chances.

Star Island Resort : Kissimmee, FL

Full service resort in Kissimmee Florida (just outside of Orlando) featuring pools, a day spa, tennis, daily and nightly activities, golf, arcade games, and more. What drew us to this place was the classic Florida decor that reminded me of visiting my grandparents in the 90’s. Columns, pastels, and some well placed mirrors all made this stay a more fun and nostalgic stop.

Location: 5000 Ave of the Stars, Kissimmee, FL 34746

Cost: ~$100-$200

Our Overall Rating: 5/5

For the price and what they offer we thought this place was a hit. I loved our room and the columns around the jacuzzi. We didn’t have much time for activities but we enjoyed how much they had to offer.

Cleanliness Rating: 4.5/5

Despite the vintage decor featured throughout the rooms, we thought they’d done a great job of keeping everything clean and well maintained.

Favorite Room: I believe we had the one-bedroom deluxe. They do have photos on the site when booking so if you liked our jacuzzi be sure and pick the one with that in the photos!

Commack Motor Inn : Commack, NY

Commack Motor Inn: A vintage motel with heart shaped tubs and surprisingly well maintained rooms designed in what appears to have been the 80’s. Known for their 3-hour ‘short stay’ option, this place has quite the reputation for being a seedy love motel.

Location: 2231 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, NY 11725

Cost: ~$100-$200

Our Overall Rating: 3/5

This place was such a fun surprise. I rarely get to see vintage rooms that are in such good condition, especially when they’re just at a basic roadside motel. Be aware they ask for a $200 cash deposit that you get back at check out if the room looks good. Now that I think about it, that’s probably what keeps the rooms in such good shape!!

Cleanliness Rating: 3/5

It’s definitely well maintained for its age, but it’s still a motel so don’t get your hopes up for something too fancy. Fun for an afternoon but I wouldn’t choose it for an overnight. And maybe bring those bleach wipes!

Favorite Room: The room with the heart tub and heart-shaped golden yellow bed.
